Family Relationships

It would be nice if all families were supportive and understanding but unfortunately in "real" life this is often not the case, life after abuse can affect us in how we cope with relationships within the family especially if our abuser was a family member. Try and get your family to understand what your needs are, you can print out the section "what we want you to know" if it would help and use that to explain to your family how they can best support you and help you.

If you come from a dysfunctional family then try and get as much support from your friends and other resources if need be, families can be very challenging at times and hard work.

When the family know about the abuse that has happened to you it can either go one way or the other, In some cases it can bring the family closer together but it can also drive families apart, this is not your fault its the lack of understanding from the family members.

If you need information about support for your family please contact us and we will help you find some support for your family in your local area.
