Signs of abuse in children.

  • Knowledge about sexual activity which is unusual for the child's age
  • Depression,
  • Attachment problems such as withdrawal or clingy behaviour
  • Eating disorders
  • Self-harming and/or suicide attempts
  • Difficulty in concentrating
  • Distrustfulness
  • Nightmares and/or insomnia
  • Self-conscious behaviour particularly when undressing
  • Perfectionism
  • Unexplained injuries
  • Attempts at running away from home
  • Aggressive behaviour
  • Reluctance to have any physical contact with people
  • Victims can have problems with their emotional and/or intellectual development
  • Putting themselves down
  • Fear of the unknown or the new
  • Lack of friends or other social relationships
